It is one of the most popular plants in terms of cultivation, after all, it is very easy to take care of and deliver fruits very quickly.

And since it is easy to cultivate it, we will present in this article how to plant cherry tomatoes in both pet bottles and pots, allowing you to have fresh produce produced in your own house or apartment, as it can be placed in the yard, in bibs or even in hanging gardens.

When should I plant cherry tomatoes?

The decision of when to plant cherry tomatoes will depend on a few factors. As this cultivar prefers a cooler climate and also high luminosity, it gives better with temperatures between 20ºC and 25ºC during the day and 11ºC and 18ºC at night. In the South region, for example, it can be planted from August to February, to avoid colder and frost periods.

But despite the preference for cooler weather, it can be grown all year round in the other regions without any contraindications, especially if you do the cultivation at home or apartment, whether in pot or bottled pet, which we will explain from now on

How to plant cherry tomatoes in pet bottles

To achieve effective planting of cherry tomatoes in pet bottles, you will need the following items:

  • 1 2-liter pet bottle;
  • 1 barbecue stick or piece of wood about eight centimeters;
  • 1 scissors;
  • 1 coffee strainer;
  • Earth;
  • Cherry tomato seedlings;
  • Barbed wire or wire to hang the bottle;
  • Sharp object to make holes.
First, wash the pet bottle well and remove the label. Then cut the bottom of the bottle and put it back, but inverted. With the bottom still inside the pet bottle, make two side holes so that the piece of wood or barbecue skewer can be pierced. It is necessary that the holes are in the same position to provide balance when the bottle hangs. Next, drill a few holes in the base of the pet bottle that has been trimmed, they will be needed for the water to come down to the ground when the plant is watered.

Take the coffee filter and tear your seam from the edge to the center. Then take the cherry tomato seedling and wrap it with the coffee filter so the soil is covered. Carefully place the tomato seedling through the bottleneck of the pet bottle, using the open hole in the base.

Then turn the container upside down and fill it with soil, leaving a space for the introduction of the trimmed base, which will help distribute the water. Return to the wooden toothpick and thread through the holes. Tie the wire or string between the chopsticks so you can hang the plant. Choose a location to hang your new pet bottle vase and fill the dispenser with water until it flows into the bottleneck. To protect the extremely delicate roots of the light, cover the pet bottle, either with spray or with tape.

How to Plant Potted Cherry Tomatoes

In the case of the vase, you can begin planting from seeds, whether purchased from a specialist store or even from the seeds of some cherry tomatoes that you have purchased. If you choose the second option, put the seeds on a sheet of paper and let it dry in the shade.

When choosing a location in your yard, garden or window, keep in mind that the cherry tomato pot should receive at least four hours of sun daily. With that set, it's time to put your hands on the ground, letting it well loose, after all, the tomato loves a soft and rich soil. After that, drill with your finger, with a space of 30 cm between them and insert the seeds. Sprinkle earth on top.

In the case of irrigation, there are some specificities. Until the seedlings start to come out and when they are still very small, it is allowed to water every morning. However, when the tomato is firmer, water only three times a week. And when the leaves are grown, avoid wetting them.

Over time, the sprout will grow, thicken and the leaves will appear. To hold the tomato foot firm, place a stake that exceeds the height of the plant and tie it to the stem. This will cause the tomato to not fall, continue to grow and produce fruit.

How to plant cherry tomatoes in apartment

Both the pet bottle and pot method can be done in an apartment. It is enough that you take the necessary care during cultivation, that the results will be satisfactory. Among the precautions is to reinforce the need to receive enough sun, and keep it with enough water for it to develop, without soaking it. In addition, the soil should be well fertilized and rely on organic matter, such as food peels and eggs, beaten in the blender, which are good fertilizers.

Harvesting usually occurs between 30 and 50 days after the emergence of the flowers, which in turn usually appear after about 60 days of germination. And it's easy enough to see if the fruit is ready for consumption: if the cherry tomato is red, it's time to take it out and make a good salad with it!
